Literacy Tip for the Month of November:
The Struggling Reader
“Scaffolding (a critical component of guided reading) involves the provision of temporary supports that allow students to successfully accomplish a task that is too challenging for them to accomplish on their own” (Lipson & Wixson, 2010, Successful Approaches to RTI. p 35).

Literacy Tip of the Month "Reading Response Blogs"

During Independent Reading Time, as much as teachers would like to, it’s very difficult to converse or conference with every student about their book. However, having them respond to their reading in writing, is a great way to engage their minds and check for understanding. As the new school year starts, teach your students how to blog. Not only will students be able to blog about their thoughts and feelings about a book, but you can pose a question or comment of your own. Students will especially enjoy commenting on a class read aloud! For a blogging tool, check out www.kidblog.org.
